Mass killings in the Lone Star State

Residents of Texas and across the country are reeling after a pair of mass killings incidents over the weekend show early connections to the state’s seemingly insurmountable border crisis.
Saturday afternoon, a mass shooting at an outlet mall in Allen TX, an upscale suburb of Dallas, left eight victims dead. The gunman, 33-year-old Mauricio Garcia, served briefly in the U.S. military before being removed because of concerns over his mental health. No clear motive has been established yet.
Less than 24 hours later Sunday morning, eight more people were killed and 10 others were injured when an SUV plowed into a group of people waiting at a bus stop in Brownsville, Texas. All eight of the deceased were Venezuelan, part of a group of migrants under the care of Border Patrol. A huge number of Venezuelans are attempting to slip into the U.S. near Brownsville. Last Thursday alone, 4,000 of about 6,000 migrants in Border Patrol custody in Texas's Rio Grande Valley were Venezuelan.
Early reports claim that the gunman in Allen appears to have links and sympathies with white supremacist beliefs. Meanwhile, witnesses in Brownsville said they heard the driver of the vehicle George Alverez, now in police custody, shouting anti-immigrant messages before the crash.
Just two weeks ago, 42-year-old Mexican illegal immigrant Francisco Oropesa gunned down 5 people, including women and a 9-year-old child. The suspect was finally captured several days after the deadly rampage after a massive statewide manhunt. Oropesa had been apprehended and deported back to Mexico five times before the mass shooting.
In the wake of these tragedies, concerns are rapidly rising about aggrieved and often mentally unstable people taking out their anger in acts of lethal violence or vigilantism, says 5th generation Texan Richard Battle, an award-winning author, and national media commentator.
“When you add the fact that the US/Mexico border is bracing for a potentially huge influx of illegal immigrants starting this Thursday, people who are already on the edge can tip over the edge”, says Battle.
May 11th is when Title 42, put in place during the COVID crisis to make it easier for authorities to expel illegal immigrants, is set to expire. Officials expect a virtual human wave of asylum seekers to put a crushing additional strain on the southern border then.
Richard Battle is available to offer up expert analysis from the Lone Star state on what he believes is a major existential crisis in America. Richard has personally reported from the border, interviewing DPS officials who are involved with border issues daily.
“It is so serious here that the city of El Paso has declared a state of emergency because so many asylum seekers are under the belief that starting May 11th, they will have free and easy access to the country. Thousands are camped out just across the river in Juarez and are about to stream into the country illegally. Regardless of your political views, neither Texas nor anywhere else in America has the infrastructure in place to handle the enormous influx of people,” said Battle.
