Former president Donald Trump has resumed his role as the media’s main character. The former president has long thrived on chaos and turmoil as he has successfully portrayed himself to his supporters as a victim of the establishment, the "deep state," and liberal forces. That’s exactly the picture he’s been painting repeatedly since learning of his indictment from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for his alleged involvement in hush-money payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 elections.
Will this impact his political ambitions? Will it erode his ‘Always Trump’ base? How should the faithful Christian process this event?
An indictment is unlikely to have a great impact on evangelicals and other conservative Christians who have been his staunchest supporters. Christian evangelist Franklin Graham urged Christians to pray for the U.S. amid rumors of a looming indictment against former President Trump. Graham, who was an ally of Trump during his presidency, added that the charges against the former president “are politically motivated,” and he asked Christians to pray that "God’s hand would be upon him, protect him, and direct him in every step he takes—and that God’s will be done." Should Graham be expressing support for Trump like this?
Mark Burrell, author of ‘Rediscovering the American Covenant – Roadmap to Restore America’ says, “YES”. He argues “The first Test for an acceptable civil servant is their views on Moral Law and how that informs civil Justice. This is because God demands justice in Genesis 9, for which the Moral Law IS the Rule of Law.” According to him, the progressive platform shows they completely reject the Moral Law which disqualifies any Progressive candidate from holding office in America given our National founding Covenant – the Declaration of Independence.
Who is to blame for a lack of character in our candidates? “The church,” answers Burrell. “They have looked down on politics for so long that few individuals even feel like public service is a noble venture in the eyes of God let alone a valid personal ministry. Trump’s case is not a moral test for Christians – the lack of a clear understanding of the Moral Law is the Test the Church has failed over recent decades.”
Talk to Mark Burrell about:
1. Do Christianity and democracy go hand in hand?
2. Why and how according to Mark, have the Progressives rejected the Moral Law?
3. Would a Donald Trump indictment impact Evangelical Christian support?
4. How and why should the Church play an active role in politics and democracy?
