Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm voiced support on Wednesday for transitioning the military to exclusively rely upon electric vehicles before 2030.
Granholm affirmed her faith in the Biden administration proposal in a hearing for the Senate Armed Services Committee in which Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) pressed her on whether the policy would hinder the lethality of the military. She insisted that electrification would decrease vulnerability to worldwide turbulence in the fossil fuel sector.
“I do think that reducing our reliance on the volatility of globally traded fossil fuels, where we know that global events such as the war in Ukraine can jack up prices for people back home does not contribute to energy security,” she commented. “I think energy security is achieved when we have home-grown, clean energy that is abundant.”

Granholm and Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) quibbled about the "lethality of the military"??
So she insisted that electrification would decrease vulnerability to worldwide turbulence in the fossil fuel sector when the U.S. can produce ample petroleum fuel.
Then to claim that "events such as the war in Ukraine" can jack up prices for people back home ...ignores the fact that Uncle Sam is deeply involved in that "war" and our administration shows zero desire to seek peace, while China and others are insisting on it.
Also---if an electric vehicle (say a tank) goes down to inoperable voltage in its batteries, how is it to be charged in the field? A C-130 can drop fuel but charging is not as instantaneous ad pouring fuel into a tank (no pun intended). No mention of the sourcing of the batteries and the raw materials which makes them.
Humanity has been made to be both redundant and hypothetical in so many ways. And now A.I. is going to robotize, "out think" and work faster than the people who design and build them.
It might be a good time to watch the old movie---way ahead of its time "Colossus; The Forbin Project." If we were not individually mortal I would be much more concerned. But we will all return to the now-more-polluted earth before too very long and it will be at some future point when the grim reaper ends the species. And for those who envisage "life after the apocalypse" in a DUMB (Deep Underground Military Base) the'd better realize that the same "poop" they face now above ground will be just as present, in an equal percentage and they will have toil. I was talking with a friend who is from Mexico and he reminded me that he fully expects to be allowed in a DUMB when the event(s) happen(s) because; "They are going to want Mexicans to be there to wash, iron, cook and manage their subterranian gardens." We both laughed a sort of gallows humor and then went back to our design work for a project.
One really does have to question how such moronic conversations can occur in the halls where the constitution is to be defended and protected and note taken that 100% of all military action has taken place offshore since the unCivil War ended in the mid 1860's.
P.S. Was the word Hybrid mentioned in all the chortling and jockeying. Sure wish they'd wear NASCAR type uniforms so we could see who the sponsors are.
