Why Are So Many Young People Rejecting The Idea of the American Dream?
Sixty-five percent of Gen Zers and 74% of millennials say they believe they are starting further behind financially than earlier generations at their age...
PUBLIUS GUEST AUTHOR: Joe Brocato, author of Hit It Off: 21 Rules for Mastering the Art and Science of Relationships In Life and Business.
Brocato says, The American Dream should always empower every American—no matter one’s age—the ability to proposer based on one’s abilities and efforts. Politicians and the electorate alike have not adequately prioritized the importance of the American Dream.
Maintaining the American Dream requires two fairly simple efforts:
Politicians need to apply critical thinking and mindfulness to the concerns of younger people and the roadblocks to their success. When was the last time you heard a major news story about politicians focusing squarely on the difficulties of younger Americans or a major piece of constitutional legislation attempting to address this problem? Frankly, Gen Zers and millennials are not being respected—prioritized—properly by our political leaders.
Equally important, Gen Zers and millennials need to remain positive and focus on what is well within their control to drive their success. A big part of the solution is mastering their skills with people. 85% of career success is based on relationship skills. Younger people can work their way up the economic ladder faster by mastering—prioritizing—the art and science of relationships and using these skills to maximize the likelihood of achieving their financial and other personal goals.
